The project entails the making of a garden for a renovated Tuscan farmhouse near Volterra and the opening of a new footpath –a comfortable alternative to the existing steep main access road. To get around the problem of a serious water shortage it has been necessary to build a huge underground tank to collect the rainwater. The modest modifications in the terrain slopes have made it possible to plant an extensive Mediterranean scrub on the newly created terraces and escarpments as well as to complete the line od cypress-trees along the main access road. Therefore the landscape is not contaminated by any kind of fence but dotted strictly with indigenous plant species. The digging of the water tank has allowed for a 400-sq.mts extension of the main terrace garden and required the construction of a massive curved retaining stone wall. Furthermore, a pergola (to be covered by wistaria, honeysuckle and roses) has been built right on the spot where the view is most magnificent.
